If you came here because of this week’s YouTube episode where I was featured then give yourself a pat on the back! We are almost halfway through the NFL season, so if you are still alive in your survivor pool then buckle up because it’s about to get bumpy starting this week. Week 7 was full of injuries to star players so it is in your best interest to keep track of who is playing and not playing for the teams you are planning on choosing. In case you missed it, here is a recap of my picks last week:

Pick #1: San Diego Chargers over Jacksonville Jaguars (24-6) Won
Pick #2: Green Bay Packers over Cleveland Browns (31-13) Won
Pick #3: Kansas City Chiefs over Houston Texans (17-16) Won
Sleeper Pick: Atlanta Falcons over Tampa Bay Buccaneers (31-23) Won

Survivor Pool Week 8 NFL Picks

4 for 4… not too shabby if I do say so myself! The Texans and QB Case Keenum almost ruined my perfect record last week, but luckily the Chiefs pulled out the close victory to become the last undefeated team still standing at 7-0 (that a boy, Alex). In my own survivor pool, I went with the San Diego Chargers last week and was handsomely rewarded with an easy victory without having to choose one of the top teams, always a win-win. This week I plan on picking…

Top 4 Locks for Week 8

2013 NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 8 - Pick No. 1 - 49ers over Jaguars
I must admit that I am a long time San Francisco 49ers (5-2) fan, but that fact alone isn’t the only reason why I am picking them to demolish the (0-7) Jacksonville Jaguars this week. Both teams are playing at a neutral site in London, and should feel the effects of playing overseas equally. That being said, the 49ers and their bruising defense are far and away the easiest lock to pick this week so pick them and move on safely to the next round.

2013 NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 8 - Pick No. 2 - Broncos over Redskins
The (6-1) Denver Broncos are at home this week and coming off a tough loss to the (5-2) Indianapolis Colts which dealt them their first loss of the season. If there is one thing I do know, QB Peyton Manning is still kicking himself over losing to his former team and giving Colts owner Jim Irsay even more to say on Twitter (put down the drink, Jim). Count on the Broncos to blow out the overmatched (2-4) Washington Redskins at Mile High.

2013 NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 8 - Pick No. 3 - Saints over Bills
The (5-1) New Orleans Saints are well rested coming off a bye week and are playing at home against a (3-4) Buffalo Bills team that is coming off a gutsy road victory against the Miami Dolphins. While that may give you cause for concern, the Saints are relatively healthy and the Bills have been banged up, especially at the QB position. Look for the Saints defense to bring Bills QB Thad Lewis back to Earth in a blowout.

2013 NFL Survivor Pool Picks Week 8 - Pick No. 4 - Seahawks over Rams
My Monday Night special is the (6-1) Seattle Seahawks and their tenacious defense laying a beat down on the road against the (3-4) St.Louis Rams who must play the rest of the season without QB Sam Bradford who went down with a torn ACL last week. If this game were played in Seattle, it would be an almost fool-proof lock.

Sleeper Picks for Week 8

Dallas Cowboys over Detroit Lions

The (4-3) Detroit Lions are coming off a tough loss to the Bengals and are favored to win at home against the (4-3) Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are banged up at the receiver and running back positions (not to mention DE DeMarcus Ware) but QB Tony Romo is playing with a lot of heart.

Both teams need to win this game to have a good shot at making the playoffs, but this really comes down to a judgement call. Call me crazy, but I see the Cowboys overcoming all odds and squeezing out a gutsy and razor thin win against the Lions on the road.

Oakland Raiders over Pittsburgh Steelers

The (2-4) Pittsburgh Steelers are coming off a close victory against the Baltimore Ravens and are favored to win this game by a field goal, but I for one am not convinced. My gut tells me that the (2-4) Oakland Raiders and QB Terrelle Pryor will have something to prove playing in front of their home crowd in what will be a physical game between two struggling teams. I predict a big game from Pryor similar to his breakout performance against the San Diego Chargers in Week 5 that should be enough to come out on top.

That’s all my picks for Week 8. Stay tuned next week so that you can be the last man standing while watching your competition drop like flies as the season goes along. Feel free to ask me questions about your survivor pool picks on Twitter @MikeMital.
